Iris  
Iris: Journal About Women Celebrates Its 25th Year

YOU’VE COME A long way, Iris. Since its inception as a photocopied newsletter for the U.Va. Women’s Studies Center, Iris has transformed itself into a glossy magazine that has earned a national readership. And, though the journal for women remains a small magazine, it delivers a powerful punch, with content that “has always been strong, honest, smart and quite different from anything you’d find in mainstream magazines,” said coordinating editor Gina Welch. Winners of U.Va.’s 2005 Outstanding Employee Awards Announced

A major component of the University’s infrastructure is its staff, and each year U.Va. takes the opportunity to honor employees considered the “cream of the crop” with Outstanding Contribution Awards. Last week, 11 employees whose exemplary service, leadership and dedication have far exceeded expectations were announced in time for Virginia Public Service Week, May 2-8, during which employees are recognized for their hard work and dedication to the state. Planning Initiatives Help Put U.Va.’s Future in Perspective
Change for the University is imminent and the recently approved University restructuring bill will help define the blueprint that will shape the University’s destiny. Faculty Senate members listened last week to several initiatives, which included the establishment of a six-year financial plan, a six-year physical site development plan and a six-year plan of academic programs.
