Life Is What You Make It; Sheer Determination Has Seen Fatima Boamah Through Educational Journey

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE if you set your mind to it. And that’s exactly what Fatima Boamah did to achieve her dream of a college education. Organization and determination have kept this mother of three on track, all the while working full-time, adapting to a new culture and attending classes at night. Boamah, 34, will walk U.Va.’s Lawn to receive her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies,with a concentration in business. Full story.

Paul McIntosh
Paul McIntosh’s Love of Kids Inspires His Medical Career

Nothing has taught Paul McIntosh more about patience and bravery than working with terminally ill children. It also taught the 2005 U.Va. School of Medicine graduate that he is a true “people person.” After receiving his diploma on Sunday, McIntosh will follow his calling as a physician, enjoying the daily patient interaction, and ultimately becoming a pediatrician. Keva McDonald On the Side of the Wrongly Convicted

Keva McDonald’s fascination with criminal behavior guided her to attend U.Va.’s School of Law. Intent on becoming a prosecutor, she realized after working in a public defender’s office and with the Innocence Project, a nonprofit legal clinic and criminal justice resource center, that prosecution work wasn’t for her. After McDonald graduates on Sunday, she will continue her fight for the indigent in Washington D.C. Full story.

Isabelle Stanton
Teaching in the Numbers for U.Va.’s Isabelle Stanton

A keen logic for numbers runs in the family of Isabelle Stanton. The daughter of two computer programmers, Stanton already has a bachelor’s degree under her belt; on Sunday, the 19-year-old will earn her master’s degree in mathematics from U.Va. “Numbers have always made sense to me,” said Stanton, an exceptional young woman who finished high school at age 13.
