Seemingly Just as Fast as They Arrived, the Class of 2004 Says Goodbye

DESPITE AN EARLY MORNING shower, U.Va.’s Class of 2004 had their time in the sun as they gathered on the Lawn for graduation ceremonies held Sunday. More than 30,000 family members and guests were on hand to share in the splendor of 5,744 graduates as they finished one chapter in their lives, ready to begin another. Sen. John W. U.Va. Staff Among the Traditional Students Who Walked Down the Lawn

Tim Wilkinson, Sally Friedman, Fay Miller Ferneyhough and Debbie Fisher were among as many as two dozen U.Va. employees who walked down the Lawn on Sunday to receive their degrees. The University offers a variety of options for employees to further their education — tuition waivers, tuition reimbursement and the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program. Full story.

U.Va., Microsoft, Thomson Collaborate to Design New Instructional Tools

Ed AyersFollowing the technical and academic trends on college campuses, U.Va., Microsoft and Thomson Learning announced a groundbreaking collaboration to develop and deliver digital course material using Tablet PCs. The goal is to institute pilot projects like this to explore and expand how more traditional approaches might be reinvented to better serve our students, said Edward L. Ayers (left), dean of U.Va.’s College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, which is involved in the project. Full story.
