The Power of Complexity: Professor Brings His Ideas Into the Classroom
 

Nicholas de MonchauxCOMPLEXITY IS THE KEY to any successful architectural design, says U.Va. architecture professor Nicholas de Monchaux. As in architectural illustrations, viewers see an idealization of a new building and not the realization of how it will look and operate with the presence of people. The design must be built around the complexity of human life and the complexity of their environment. De Monchaux shows his students that acknowledging complexity does make a difference. Full story.

VDOT Scheduled to Begin Paving Sections of Road

Alderman Road, from Pratt Drive to Whitehead Road, and Copeley Road from Ivy Road to Massie Road, will be receiving a makeover this week. Motorists should expect delays as the Virginia Department of Transportation mills and paves these sections. Work should be completed by June 4.

Concrete Repairs Slated for Scott Stadium This Week

Starting today and continuing through Friday, two of the light poles in the University’s Scott Stadium will be shining from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. to facilitate concrete repair in the western upper-level seating area. The work requires spraying of a polyurethane coating on the concrete at night when there is normally little wind. In case of bad weather, the spraying will be rescheduled, and will be announced on the U.Va. Community Relations Web site.
