4, 2004 -- Beginning Monday, June 7, Massie Road, from its intersection
with Copeley
Road to the front of the North Grounds Recreation Center, will
be closed
to through traffic to facilitate utility work for the John Paul
Jones Arena
under construction.
Throughout the project, which is expected to continue through
July 2,
motorists will have access to the Miller Center of Public Affairs
and Faulkner Residences on Faulkner Drive. Residents of Copeley
Hill Apartments on Farish Circle will also have access along
Massie Road, from its intersection with Copeley Road. Flagmen
will be
on hand to direct traffic, if necessary.
Throughout the work area, barricades will be erected to accommodate
large
equipment. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
When the utility work is completed on Massie Road, the barricades
will be removed, and normal traffic flow will resume.
Beginning Thursday, June 3, electronic flashing signs will
be placed at the intersection of Massie Road and Copeley
Road and
at the
intersection of Arlington Boulevard and Millmont Street
to alert local motorists of the pending closure. The signs
will
remain
in place until the work is completed.
Starting on Tuesday, July 6, and continuing through Friday,
July 16, Copeley Road will be closed to all vehicular
traffic from
its intersection with Massie Road to its intersection
with Peyton Drive
(Copeley Apartments). Copeley Apartment residence on
Peyton Drive and Seymour Road will have access to Copeley
Road
east only from
Emmet Street.
