My Favorite Course: POlitics Professor Lawriie Balfour

Lawrie Balfour, an assistant professor of politics, claims that she does not have a "favorite course" to teach. However, in the first of an occasional series of essays by College of Arts & Sciences faculty, she makes a pretty good case for her 400-level "Feminist Political Theory" course. Located just a little outside her scope of formal expertise, she relishes the chance to pursue ideas that are exciting and fresh with eager students. Full story.

DUMBO Land is Fertile Ground for Double 'Hoo

David C. Walentas, a two-time U.Va. graduate (Engineering '61, Darden '64) made his fortune Down Under —Not in Australia, but in what he calls the DUMBO section of Manhattan, short for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass." After years of perserverance, the land has become fertile ground for Walentas, owner and president of Two Trees Management Company. Full story.
