In
response to a need for greater technology education
opportunities in Virginia, the Commonwealth Graduate
Engineering Program was introduced 20 years ago
to allow students earning their master’s
degree in engineering to take classes at any one
of five participating universities in the state,
including U.Va. This distance-learning program,
one of the first in the nation, now enables students
to “attend” lectures at other state
institutions, while completing course requirements
