BOV Approves Funds for Compensation, Research

Hair cells in the inner ear that affect hearing and balance begin functioning in just one day in mouse embryos, according to a study conducted by researchers at U.Va.’s Health System. Knowing when and how original hair cells develop is key to the regeneration of hair cells in the human ear, says Jeffrey R. Holt, an assistant professor of neuroscience and otolaryngology. Duty in Iraq Gives Nurse New Sense of Mission

Army nurse Capt. Tara O. Spears faced many challenges while working in a combat field hospital in Iraq. She plans to incorporate her war-time experience in her pursuit of a master’s degree from U.Va.’s School of Nursing. Spears says her advanced degree will help her in future deployments. Full story.
