Bloomfield challenges students to take more responsibility for honor

Physics professor Louis Bloomfield was a supporter of the Honor System when he initiated charges against 158 students in an internationally reported plagiarism scandal. Last week, though, he told the U.Va. Faculty Senate that if he had it to do all over again, he would do things differently. The system is in dire need of repair, he said, beginning with the need for students to take more responsibility for its enforcement. He also called for expansion of the sanction options. Full Story.

Exhibit0based book takes modern look at Jefferson's legacy

The 2000 exhibition, "Hindsight/Fore-site: Art for the New Millenium" was the most ambitious ever undertaken by the U.Va. Art Museum. Now it is the subject of a new book, "Siting Jefferson: Contemporary Artists Interpret Thomas Jefferson's Legacy," which features artwork and essays from several local figures. Full Story.

'Fringe Festival' will occupy center stage for local arts enthusiasts

Aboriginal artist David GulpililThey call it the "Fringe Festival," the annual multi-arts exhibition that accompanies the Virginia Film Festival, but its offerings are truly first-rate. Startiing Friday, the festival will fill the old IGA Building on Ridge Street with art, music and performances, including an Oct. 25 appearance by renowned Aboriginal artist David Gulpilil (left).
