16th Annual Virginia Film Festival Will Show You the Money

dollar.gifTHE VIRGINIA FILM FESTIVAL will kick off its 16th year on Oct. 23-26. In keeping with the theme “$,” a wealth of films and events will be presented that explore the extremes of wealth and poverty. The gala event will offer nearly 70 classics and short films, plus an array of guest speakers, panels, exhibits, parties and performances. Full story.

New Treatment for Pituitary Tumors Uses Implanted Wafers

Neurosurgeons at U.Va.’s Health System are studying a new way to treat tumors in the pituitary gland. While most pituitary tumors are benign, there are some people who experience aggressive recurrence after surgical removal. To help reduce the chances of the tumors returning, chemotherapy wafers are being implanted in the area that houses the pituitary. Full story.

Supporters alike recently attended a symposium, “A Decade of Digital Scholarship,” marking 10 years of success for U.Va.’s Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities.
