WHEN
STUDENTS COME to the University of Virginia, they
agree to abide by the Honor System,
under which lying, cheating and stealing are grounds
for dismissal. Still, there are some who
violate this code of ethics. Faculty
have released an anaylsis that suggests cheating
often goes undetected
or unreported. The
report
also reveals higher rates of honor accusations
against African-American students, men,
athletes
and international
students. Once formally accused, however, they are
convicted at a rate consistent with that of the rest
of the student body. So, what steps can U.Va. take
reiterating the values of the Honor System? Full
story.

Warner, the campaign provides an easy, effective
method for
U.Va.
employees
to
contribute
to the
charities of their choice. There are nearly 1,100
nonprofit organizations that partake in the CVC
annually. The deadline for turning in pledge
cards is Dec. 3. Full

For
most of us, clean drinking water is as close
as the kitchen sink. However, that isn’t
the case for
the people
who
inhabit
the poor, rural areas of the
world, where the search for clean drinking
water is daunting. Over the summer, Julie
Guyenet
(left), a U.Va. environmental sciences
alumnus, along with visiting professor Robert
Marquez (right), researched techniques for
purifying water in underdeveloped communities. Full
