U.Va. Finalizes Dates For J-Term 2006 & Finals 2007

The University’s January Term or ‘J-term,’ will run from Tuesday, Jan. 3 to Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. This two-week period will give students an opportunity to study topics for which their schedules might not otherwise allow. Classes will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7. This calendar adjustment allows two weekdays between the end of J-term and the beginning of the spring semester, Wednesday, Jan. 18, and will eliminate the need for class on Monday, Jan. 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Final Exercises 2007 will be held on May 20. Further information about the 2006-2007 academic calendar will be distributed and posted online soon.

Chege Helping Orphans of Keyna — One Child at a Time

It’s hard to fathom the millions of children in Kenya who spend their every moment on the streets, living on sidewalks, at dump sites and in sewers, often afflicted with festering wounds and disease. Kenya native Wambui Jackie Chege (above) was merely a child herself when, at age 12, she began reaching out to street children. Now an adult, Chege is on a quest to save the lives of the more than 60,000 orphaned children who roam the streets of Nairobi. Chege visited U.Va. on Nov. 9 to speak about her work. Full story.
