professional development? U.Va.’s Division
of Training, in partnership with ITC, is now offering
a pilot program that enables U.Va. employees to
access over 1,300 courses right at their fingertips
via the Internet. The program, supported by NETg,
a Thompson Learning company, is designed to help
employees advance their knowledge and apply it

The holidays aren’t
the only time for giving. Fourth-year computer
sciences major Aaron Johnson (above) and Girish
Ratanpal, a Ph.D. candidate in electrical engineering,
spent their summer vacation giving their time
and know-how to needy communities abroad. As part
of the Engineers Without Borders program, both
U.Va. students traveled to underprivileged countries
to help institute low-cost projects that would
provide a greater quality of life for residents.
