November 25, 2004 -- Racism, self-segregation, ignorance, racial
tension. Are you a faculty member interested in discussing and
improving
race
relations
here in the U.Va. community and society at large? A faculty Sustained
Dialogue group may enable you to take a step in that direction.
An information session on forming such a group will be on Nov.
29 in Newcomb Room 168.
Begun by students at U.Va. three years ago, Sustained Dialogue
brings together different types of people in small-group discussion,
serving as a catalyst for opening lines of communication among
racial groups to promote multicultural understanding.
This is the inaugural group for faculty. During biweekly meetings
throughout a year or longer, participants in a Sustained Dialogue
group go through a five-stage process which enables them to
explore and confront issues of diversity (or any other
problem).
