U.Va. Training in Biomedical Ethics Lifts Physician Farhat Moazam to Leadership of Pakistani Center

AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAREER in medicine, U.Va. pediatric surgeon Dr. Farhat Moazam reached a crossroad in her life. Ready to face new challenges, she returned to graduate school and received her doctorate in religious studies from U.Va. in May. Come January, Moazam’s career path will take a turn as she returns to her native Pakistan to become director of the Centre of Biomedical Ethics & Culture at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation in Karachi. U.Va. Bookstore to Host Sixth Annual Holiday Open House This Week

The U.Va. Bookstore will hold its sixth annual Faculty and Staff Holiday Open House on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The bookstore will offer refreshments, free gift-wrapping and 20 percent off all purchases throughout the store. Door prizes will be distributed, and there will be story time for children. Contact 924-3721 with questions or e-mail the bookstore.

“Metro Center”
 

Fourth-year U.Va. student Greg Scanlon, author of the Cavalier Daily’s longest-running comic strip, “Metro Center,” has been named a finalist in a nationwide contest that may earn him a development contract and a $3,000 stipend. The contest, sponsored by “MTVU,” a subsidiary of MTV, deals exclusively with college life. “Metro Center” features two college roommates, Jake and Sky, as well as a host of well-loved side characters, from Preston the robot to the Ghost of Liberal Guilt.
