October 24, 2003 -- Biotage Inc., a manufacturer of sophisticated
filters for the pharmaceutical industry, has been named the Research
Park Company of the Year by the Association of University Research
Parks.
Located
in the University of Virginias North Fork Research Park, the
company was recognized for excellence in technological innovation
and cmmercial success.

said Bruce Stouffer, director of real estate development for the
University of Virginia Foundation. "Biotage is a superb company
with exciting technology and an excellent business plan. Its extensive
collaboration with University faculty, students and graduates has
made it a great addition to our North Fork Research Park."
Biotage
is a leading manufacturer of small-molecule drug discovery purification
systems and consumables for the pharmaceutical industry. It became
a subsidiary of the Dyax Corp.in 1995 through a merger of Biotage
and Protein Engineering Corp. Since then, Biotage revenues have
increased tenfold, and it now employs about 100 people.
Biotages
global headquarters have been in U.Va.'s North Fork Research Park
since 2002. The company also has offices in Canada, England, France,
Germany, Italy and Japan.
"Our
relationship with U.Va. goes back to our founding moment,"
said David Patterson, Biotage president and chief executive officer.
"One of the co-founders was a U.Va. graduate, and our purification
technology was validated within the U.Va. Chemistry Department.
Today nearly 10 percent of Biotage employees are U.Va. graduates."
