Crowd Expected For Virginia-Virginia Tech Football Game
Sept. 30, 1999 -- A record crowd is expected
at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at
Scott Stadium, for Saturday's (Oct. 2) football game between the
University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. A stadium-record 50,000
fans attended Virginia's game with Wake Forest on September 18 and
a larger crowd is expected for Saturday's game. The game is sold
out and there are no tickets available. "With the ongoing construction
at the stadium and the current level of support facilities available,
we feel there is a limit to the number of people we can properly
service at this time," UVa Director of Athletics Terry Holland said.
"We've never had to limit the number of students and their guests
attending a football game, but we may need to do that on Saturday.
Our plan is to allow 13,000 students and their guests into the general
admission section of the stadium for the game with Virginia Tech.
For the Wake Forest game, 11,102 students and their guests were
admitted to this section." Gate access has been improved at
the stadium since the Wake Forest game, but all fans are encouraged
to arrive early on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00
p.m. with all stadium gates opening at 4:00 p.m.
