Center
for Governmental Studies to Host National Homeownership Summit:
National Leaders Gather to Discuss Housing Issues
Nov. 11, 1999 -- The Mortgage Bankers Association
of America (MBA), in partnership with the University of Virginia's
Center for Governmental Studies, will hold a two-day National Homeownership
Summit on "Developing a Public/Private Agenda to Increase Homeownership."
The
Summit will take place at UVA's Rotunda in Charlottesville, VA on
Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12. The event will feature dialogue
among the nation's housing leaders who represent government, academia,
business and community groups. Due to limited seating, this event
is not open to the public. However, members of the media are invited
to cover the invitation-only sessions:
Opening
Session, featuring remarks by MBA President Christopher J. Sumner
and Larry Sabato, Director of UVA's Center for Governmental Studies;
Luncheon Keynote Address, featuring James Johnson, former Chairman
of Fannie Mae; Dinner Keynote Address, featuring Rep. Rick Lazio
(R-NY); and Friday's sessions, including closing remarks by
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary
Andrew Cuomo.
MBA's
Research and Education Trust Fund has provided a three-year, $103,500
grant to the University of Virginia in support of research on housing
finance related issues. The Trust Fund is also funding the National
Homeownership Summit.
