Specialist In Neoclassical And Romantic Painting And Sculpture To
Speak At U.Va.
Nov. 4, 1999 -- The University of Virginias
McIntire Department of Art will sponsor a lecture by Dorothy Johnson,
a specialist in European painting and sculpture of the Neoclassical
and Romantic periods. Johnson will lecture on "Myth and Mind: Girodet
and Romantic Hellenism" on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Room
160, Campbell Hall. A reception in Fayerweather Hall will follow
the lecture.
Johnson
is head of the school of Art and Architecture at the University
of Iowa and the author of "Jacques-Louis David: Art in Metamorphosis."
She is a noted authority on the artist, who is the father of the
modern school of French art.
