Allen,
Robb, Key Policymakers to Discuss Future of Education July 6-7 at
U.Va.
June
25, 1999 -- Politicians, policymakers and the public
will address the future of pre-school through post-secondary education
during the Third
Annual Policy Institute July 6-7 at the University of Virginia.
Throughout
the program, held in Newcomb Hall Ballroom, speakers will address
a broad range of issues affecting both kindergarten-through-grade
12 instruction and higher education in Virginia and in the nation.
Sponsored by U.Va.s Curry
School of Education, the institute will focus on such issues
as standards of learning, school reform, juvenile justice and equalizing
educational opportunities.
Senator
Charles S. Robb will deliver the luncheon keynote address on Tuesday,
July 6, and former governor George Allen will give the luncheon
address on July 7.
"The
institute will provide an opportunity to reflect upon what has and
has not occurred in the Commonwealth and across the country since
the 1989 education summit was convened at U.Va. by President George
Bush in 1989," said Carol Camp Yeakey, who is organizing the
event. "It may help to clarify new and important directions
for the future."
All
sessions are free and open to the public. For more information,
