Seeks Nominations for Annual Awards
January
22, 1999 -- The Women Faculty and Professional Association
is seeking nominations for two annual awards: the Woman of Achievement
Award, which honors a woman who has led the way in improving the
status of women or who is outstanding in her role as a manager,
organizer, researcher or teacher; and The Aspiring Woman Award,
given to to a female U.Va. employee who has returned to school to
obtain a degree (associate, undergraduate or graduate).
All
women employed by the University are eligible for both awards, which
will be made at the WFPA spring luncheon on May 5.
Nomination
packages for the Woman of Achievement award should include a letter
of nomination, a summary of accomplishments (e.g., current resumé,
curriculum vitae, or summary statement), and two letters of recommendation
from individuals familiar with the nominee's accomplishments. Please
provide specific details related to the nominee's professional achievements,
including her role in the promotion of women's issues at the University.

the package to the selection committee in care of Karen Allen, Box
262, Environmental Health and Safety (or call her at 982-4913).
Materials must be received by noon March 1. Resubmissions of previous
nominations are encouraged.
Previous
recipients include Beth Meyer, Laurie Lee Fajardo, Annette Gibbs,
Colette Capone, Karen Chandler, Prue Thorner, Miriam Birdwhistle,
Eleanor May, Lucy Hale, Barbara Kelly, Sharon Davie and Adelle Robertson.
The
Aspiring Woman Award is an annual $250 scholarship. To be eligible,
the woman must have been a University employee, either full- or
part-time, for at least one year, and be enrolled in a degree program.
An application, letter of recommendation from a faculty adviser
and a copy of the applicant's most recent grades are required.
