Buzzoni Becomes Head Of Admissions

For U.Va.’S Adult Degree Program

Kathryn Buzzoni has been named director of admissions for the University of Virginia’s Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program.

Buzzoni, who assumed the position this summer, is responsible for building enrollment in U.Va.’s program that allows adults with 60 transferable credits to pursue a bachelor’s degree on a part-time basis through evening and weekend classes. The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program, offered through U.Va.’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, began last year. About 40 BIS students are enrolled this fall.

"The chance to get in on the ground floor of an exciting new program was appealing," said Buzzoni. "Working in a small program provides a chance to offer a great deal of personal attention to prospective students."

Before joining the program, Buzzoni was a special assistant to Edward Snyder, dean of U.Va.’s Darden School, where she helped to plan special events and coordinated projects. Prior to moving to Charlottesville in 1999 from Staunton, she was director of admissions and associate program director at Mary Baldwin College’s Program for the Exceptionally Gifted for five years.

Buzzoni graduated from the College of William and Mary, where she earned a B.S. in psychology in 1990 and a M.Ed. in higher education administration in 1992.
