The
Albemarle Ensemble and Rivanna Quartet Appear for Their Final Concert
on the McIntire Chamber Music Series March 26
March
24, 2000 -- The Albemarle Ensemble and Rivanna Quartet
appear for their final concert on the McIntire Chamber Music Series
on Sunday, March 26, at 3:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
Special
guest Paul Neebe, trumpet, will be featured in Saint Saens, Septet
for Trumpet, Strings and Piano. Neebe was most recently heard soloing
with the Charlottesville University Symphony in January. Joining
him will be Mimi Tung, piano, and Pete Spaar, bass.
The
Albemarle Ensemble will present a charming neo-baroque woodwind
quintet, Ancient Hungarian Dances, by contemporary composer Ferenc
Farkas, written in the Hungarian folk style. Ensemble members include
Margaret Newcomb, flute, Kirsten Lipkens, oboe, Nancy Garlick, clarinet,
Dwight Purvis, horn and Valentin Martchev, bassoon. The Mendelssohn
Quartet in e minor, opus 44, No. 2 will conclude the concert by
the Rivanna Quartet.
The
quartet was written during a felicitous period in the composer's
life. He was on his honeymoon while enjoying international esteem
as conductor and composer. Rivanna Quartet members include Katherine
Winterstein and Susan Black, violins, Richard Baritaud, viola, and
Paige Riggs, cello.
Tickets
are $10 for general admission, $5 for students, 5 ARTS$ for U.Va.
students, and free for high school students. Tickets may be purchased
