"Notes
On The Contaminated State Of Virginia" Is The Topic Of A Lecture
By U.Va. Landscape Architecture Assistant Professor Julie Bargmann
February
17, 2000 -- Known for her proactive approach to reclaiming
contaminated industrial sites, Julie Bargmann, assistant professor
of landscape architecture at the University of Virginia, will speak
about contamination problems and solutions in the state on Friday,
Feb. 25, at 12:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall, Room 153.
Part
of a lecture series on ethics in architecture, Bargmanns talk
will offer challenging alternatives to the traditional methods of
"cap, cover, hog and haul" which have been among the standard
ways of dealing with contaminated landscapes. Using new technologies
and science in the design of earthen and planted forms, Bargmann
takes what she describes as a holistic approach to remediation of
toxic sites.
