University
Of Virginia Opens Conference Center
May
4, 2000 -- The Cavalier Inn, at 105 N. Emmet St.,
now offers year-round conference services to the public.
The
University of Virginia Foundation purchased the Cavalier Inn in
1998 and made extensive renovations to the exterior, guest rooms
and main floor. David Rau and Associates, a Richmond-based architectural
firm, redesigned the lobby with a collegiate look. In addition,
4,000 square feet of ground-floor meeting space have been renovated
and food service for hotel functions has been arranged with U.Va.
Catering.
With
completion of the renovations, the Cavalier Inn now has a total
of six meeting rooms available for use by the University and Charlottesville
communities. All of the main-floor meeting rooms are connected to
the Universitys high-speed fiber optic communications system.
To
meet the growing need for Internet connectivity, each of the 118
guest rooms has a dedicated data port. The hotel also has a fully
equipped business center.
The
Cavalier Inn is managed by Newport Hospitality Group Inc., a hotel
operator based in Williamsburg.
Reporters,
editors and meeting planners are invited to an Open House on Monday,
May 8, at 5 p.m.
