Library Names Vicki Coleman As Director of Clemons Library
September
5, 2000 -- The University of Virginia Library has
named Vicki Coleman as the new director of Clemons, the undergraduate
library. She replaces Jim Self, who left in February to become the
director of the University Libraryıs Management Information Services
(MIS).
Coleman
comes to U.Va. from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where
she had been director of the Spahr Engineering Library since 1998.
She was previously head of electronic reference services at Texas
A&M University.
"We
feel most fortunate to have attracted someone of Vicki's talent
and experience," said Diane Walker, associate University librarian
and head of the search committee for the position. "She will undoubtedly
continue the tradition of user-focused service and provide strong
leadership for Clemons. We're thrilled that she's here."
Coleman
said that she looks forward to the opportunity to work closely with
undergraduate students and "with a staff that has such obvious pride
in their jobs." She plans to seek suggestions from students about
what services the library could better provide.
She
received her B.S. in mechanical engineering from North Carolina
A&T State University in 1984 and Masters of Information and Library
Studies from the University of Michigan in 1993.
Having
grown up in Maryland, and with her parents now living in southern
Virginia, Coleman said that moving to Charlottesville "feels like
coming home again."
Coleman
began her U.Va. job today.
