Sign Up for Day of Caring by Aug. 31

Aug. 3 , 2000 -- The Thomas Jefferson Area United Way will kick off its annual Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring on Sept. 20.

The popular event is a community-wide effort that begins the University's Charitable Campaign, which is part of the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign. Day of Caring projects include helping out at the American Red Cross, ARC of the Piedmont, reading with students at local elementary schools and working with seniors. Volunteers can work all day, a half-day, or something in between.

U.Va. volunteers will be given specially designed T-shirts to wear during the event.

Sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis and can be done by e-mail to Katherine Jackson at ktj@virginia.edu or Teresa Nguyen at ttn9e@virginia.edu. Include project preference, T-shirt size, telephone number, department name and address.
