Virginia
Center for Computer Music Presents Digitalis on May 2
April
28, 2000 -- The University of Virginia's Center for
Computer Music (VCCM) will present Digitalis, an annual digital
art event, on Tuesday, May 2, at 8:15 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
The
performers will include students in the McIntire
Department of Music in the College
of Arts and Sciences and in the School
of Architecture, who will present their sound and image works.
In
addition to electronic music and video, the concert will feature
live music performances by Daniel Pinkham (cello), Oren Magid and
Eric Holloway (drumsets), and Nathan Altice (electric guitar). The
video works are results from collaborations between computer music
students in courses taught by John Gibson and Alicyn Warren, and
architecture students in Earl Mark's Digital moviemaking and Animation
course.
The
Virginia Center for Computer Music, founded in 1987 by Professor
Judith Shatin, serves students and faculty through its courses and
supports a wide array of activities. These include computer music
composition (with multiple software support running on Macintosh,
SGI, and Linux platforms), the development of UNIX audio tools and
concert performance such as the annual Digitalis program.
This
concert is free and open to the public. Free parking is available
on Jefferson Park Avenue, across from Cabell Hall.
