Ensemble
Gaudior Performs Baroque Music at U.Va.
Oct.
6, 2000 -- The McIntire
Department of Music presents Ensemble Gaudior, a Baroque violin
recital, on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall at the
University of Virginia.
Ensemble
Gaudior will perform Baroque chamber masterpieces by J. S. Bach,
Georg Telemann, Marin Marias and Jean Marie Leclair. This
performance will include Marias' Sonnerie de Ste. Genevieve, Uccellini's
Sonata seconda detta la Luciminia contenta and J. S. Bach's Sonata
No. 4 in C minor. The Fantasie No. 1 in B flat by Telemann, LeCalir's
Sonata No. 6 for two violins and Biber's Sonata No. 6 will also
be performed.
Gaudior's
members, Alexandra MacCracken, Webb Wiggins and Tina Chauncey, bring
a wealth of experience to this new venture. Alexandra MacCracken,
the group's director, plays Baroque violin and specializes in the
Baroque style. MacCracken has performed with various Baroque ensembles
including the Boston Early Music Festival, Washington Bach Consort,
The Violins of Layfayette, Brandywine Baroque, and the Bach Cantata
Series held at Heinz Chapel in Pittsburgh.
Webb
Wiggins, the group's harpsichordist, coordinates early music programs
at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. In addition, Wiggins performs
with the Smithsonian Chamber Players and the Folger Consort.
Tina
Chauncey plays viola da gamba and pardessus de viole. Chauncey is
a co-director of HESPERUS, a current member of La Rondinella and
former member of the Folger Consort.
This
Arts Enhancement Event is supported by the Provost's Office to increase
the awareness of and support for the arts at the University of Virginia.
Tickets
for the concert are $10 for the general public, $5 for students
and 5ARTS$ for U.Va. students. Tickets are available by calling
the Cabell Hall Box Office at 924-3984.
