Egyptian
Ambassador To Speak On "The Middle East In The 21st Century"
April
11, 2000 -- The University of Virginias Middle
East Studies Program will sponsor a lecture by Nabil Fahmy, ambassador
of Egypt to the United States, on April 18.
Fahmy
will speak on "The Middle East in the Twenty-first Century: Challenges
of Peace and Globalization," at 11 a.m. in the Dome Room of the
Rotunda.
Fahmy
has represented his country in Washington since October 1999. Previously
he was Egypt's ambassador to Japan, political adviser to the minister
of foreign affairs, and a member of the Egyptian mission to the
United Nations.
He
has participated in many international negotiations, including the
Madrid Peace Conference's working group on regional security and
arms control, a topic on which he has written numerous articles.
