Art Scholar Of American Modernism To Lecture At U.Va. On Abstract
Expressionism
January
19, 2000 -- "Abstract Expressionism, Race and
Gender" will be the topic of modern art scholar Ann Eden Gibsons
lecture 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, in Room 160 Campbell Hall
at the University of Virginia. Following the lecture there will
be a reception in Fayerweather Gallery.
Gibson
is a leading authority on American modernism. Her recently published
and widely-acclaimed book, "Abstract Expressionism: Other Politics,"
looks at the history of the abstract expressionist movement with
consideration of the artists of color, women, and gays and lesbians
whose works have previously been neglected in the study of this
period.
Currently
the chair of the Department of Art History at the University of
Delaware, Gibson has taught at Yale and SUNY-Stony Brook.
