Philosopher To Discuss The Ethical Function Of Architecture
March
8, 2000 -- Karsten Harries, director of the graduate
program in philosophy at Yale University, will discuss "The
Ethical Function of Architecture" on Friday, March 24, at12:30
p.m. in Campbell Hall, Room 153. His talk is part of an ethics lecture
series at the University of Virginia School of Architecture.
Harries
has published and lectured widely on modern philosophy and the philosophy
of art and architecture. He is the author of more than 130 articles
and reviews and four books, including "The Meaning of Modern
Art" and "The Bavarian Rococo Church: Between Faith and
Aestheticism." His book, "The Ethical Function of Architecture,"
received the American Institute of Architects 8th International
Book Award for criticism.
