Educator Joins Organization Promoting Excellence In Children's Literature

20, 2000 -- Joan
Kindig, an assistant professor of education at the University of
Virginia, was inducted into the Children's Book Guild of Washington
D.C., on Dec. 14
Created
in 1945, the Children's Book Guild is a professional organization
of authors, illustrators and specialists whose primary purpose is
to promote excellence in children's literature. The guild today
has about 80 members in the Baltimore-Washington area.
Kindig
teaches a variety of graduate reading courses for the McGuffey/TEMPO
Reading Outreach Program through U.Va.'s School of Continuing and
Professional Studies. She is also the curator of the Web-based Virginia
Center for Children's Books (http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/tempo/VCCB,html).
In addition, Kindig is co-chair of the Virginia State Reading Association's
Young Readers Program and serves on the editorial review board of
the Journal of Children's Literature.
