Magic
Johnson to Speak at U.Va.s University Hall
April
14, 2000 -- He
has inspired the public with his court moves, his trademark smile,
and his growing business enterprises. On Tuesday, April 18, at 7
p.m., University Union Speakers features "An Evening with Magic"
at U.Va.s University Hall.
Tickets
are $6 in advance for U.Va. students, $8 at the door. For the public,
tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. All tickets can be
purchased at the Newcomb Hall Box Office.
During
his 13 years in the NBA, Earvin "Magic" Johnson made hallmark achievements.
He lead the LA Lakers to Five NBA championships, and played in a
dozen all star games. After a hugely successful career marked by
five NBA league MVP awards, three NBA Finals MVP awards, and an
Olympic gold medal as part of the original Dream Team, Magic retired
from the NBA in 1996.
Today,
Johnson succeeds in yet another industry as he works to build up
his new company Magic Johnson Enterprises. Through MJE, Johnson
manages his subsidiary ventures: Johnson Development Corporation,
Magic Johnson T's, Magic Johnson All-Star Camps, Magic All-Stars
(a world-touring basketball team) and Magic Johnson entertainment.
Additionally,
Johnson focuses his attention on charitable and community organizations.
In 1991, he created the Magic Johnson Foundation a non-profit
organization that promotes HIV/AIDS education and care. And each
summer, he holds the Magic All-Star Basketball camps for boys and
girls in Southern California and his home state of Michigan.
Magic
Johnson is the third speaker of the University Union Speakers Series.
