ITC
Training Services to Hold Office Technology Conference 2000 for
U.Va. Staff and Faculty
April
18, 2000 -- If we have learned one thing from all
the Y2K hoopla, it is that technology plays a key role in our lives.
In all its many incarnations newer and faster chips, DVD,
MP3, handhelds, wireless LANs, and above all the Web technology
leads us into the future, and scorns us when we fall behind. The
May Office Technology Conference 2000 (OTC) will offer attendees
a valuable opportunity to explore many technical issues that will
shape the University environment in the months and years to come.
Since
the first Office Technology Conference in 1997, ITC Training Services
has been refining and improving the content of the conferences to
meet the changing needs of office professionals throughout the University.
This year's conference is organized around 5 tracks, each of which
is divided into 5 sessions that highlight specific aspects of that
track. One sessions of the "Web" track, for example, examines the
exciting capabilities of Macromedia's Dreamweaver /Fireworks 3.0
tools. Word 2000 Mail Merge, Graphics, Templates and Tips & Tricks
should appeal to those participating in the "Office 2000" track.
If your job involves solving computer problems, you won't want to
miss Web Resources for Troubleshooting from the "Troubleshooting"
track. Are you interested in "Getting the Most Out of Your Computer"?
Then be sure to attend the Site License session to find out what's
available to you. Or, maybe you're keen to explore "Emerging Technology";
if so, then Document Imaging was designed for you.
In
addition to the wealth of information available to you at the various
sessions held throughout the day, you will also have an opportunity
to see demonstrations, and ask questions, about the latest products
and services available from Cavalier Computers, Dell, Apple, Cornerstone
Networks and Internet Connections.
The
response to past conferences has been overwhelmingly positive. When
asked for her reaction to OTC 1999 Nancy Honeywell, with the Integrated
Systems Project said, "When I attended last year's conference I
was introduced to and provided with mini sessions on many of the
programs and courses offered by ITC. I also found it worthwhile
to get to know some of the ITC trainers, fellow University employees,
and vendors. It was great fun to play with and learn about recent
and upcoming products. I highly recommend attending the Office Technology
Conference as an educational and community experience."
Please
join this year's Office Technology Conference 2000, on Wednesday,
May 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Newcomb Hall. The fee for the
conference is $50, which includes materials, parking, lunch and
breaks. Registration will continue through April 28. Departments
will be billed via an Inter-Departmental Transfer (IDT). The fee
is non-refundable unless ITC is notified by May 1 that an employee
is unable to attend. The fee is transferable. For a registration
form and more information, visit the OTC 2000 web site at: http://www.itc.virginia.edu/training/conferences/otc2000/
