McIntire
Dedicates Robertson Capital Markets Room
March
29, 2000 -- On March 28, the McIntire
School of Commerce dedicated the Julian H. Robertson, Jr. Capital
Markets Room in the school's new Bridge Center for Financial Markets
at the University of Virginia. The
ceremony was held by teleconference, linking Charlottesville and
New York City.
The
surprise announcement was made by McIntire School of Commerce alumni
and successful entrepreneurs to honor Robertson, their friend and
mentor. Robertson, who is currently the chairman of Tiger Management,
a $6 billion hedge fund based in New York, nurtured the careers
of a number of McIntire alumni who are his current and former employees.
McIntire
alumni who contributed gifts to their alma mater in honor of Robertson
included Shelby Bonnie (McIntire '86), founder and chief executive
officer of CNET, a leading web site based in San Francisco, Calif.,
and John Griffin (McIntire '85), president of Blue Ridge Capital,
a New York-based hedge fund. Also, Michael Bills, director of Xtra
Corp. and the India Magnum Fund (College '78), a former chief operating
officer of Tiger Management.
The
Bridge Center is on the lower level of Monroe Hall on the U.Va.
Grounds. With four video projection systems, electronic stock tickers,
44 work stations and a suite of data feeds donated by Bridge Information
Systems, the Capital Markets Room offers a state-of-the art experiential
learning environment for students and a virtual research laboratory
for faculty.
