Charlottesville
and University Symphony Performs March 4-5
March
2, 2000 -- The Charlottesville and University Symphony
Orchestra, under the direction of Carl roskott, will perform works
by Haydn and Sibelius on Sat., March 4, at 8:15 p.m. and on Sun.,
March 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Cabell Hall Auditorium.
The
concert marks a special occasion for the Symphony: the announcement
of its third named principal chair: the Derwood and Johanna chase/Chase
Investment Counsel Principal Horn Chair. The chair was endowed with
a major gift from the Chase Investment Counsel Corporation. Both
Derwood and Johanna Chase are long-time active supporters of the
Symphony. He is a current member of the Board of the Charlottesville
Symphony Society and she is a past president of the Board.
Music
director Roskott has programmed two contrasting and familiar symphonies
to celebrate the occasion: Haydn's classical Symphony No. 44 and
Sibelius dramatic Symphony No. 44 and Sibelius dramtic Symphony
No. 1.

may be reserved by calling the Cabell Hall Box Office at 924-3984.
Tickets are priced at $20 and $15 for adults. Student tickets are
$10 or 10 ARTS$. The Box Office is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. and on concert weekends two hours prior to the performance.
A pre-concert
lecture is given 45 minutes before each performance by the eminent
professor Milos Velimirovic in the 200 seat auditorium at Minor
Hall, across the colonnade from Cabell. Pre-concert lectures are
free to all ticket holders.
Free
parking is available in the large lot on Jefferson Park Avenue,
across the street from Cabell Hall.
