Online
Student Magazine Garners Award
January
24, 2000 -- An online news magazine created by University
of Virginia students has been nominated for a national award in
the 2000 EPpy Awards Competition.
Theangle.com,
which uses graphics, tables, polls and other interactive elements
to present the news, was nominated for an award in the "Best College
Online News Source" category. Winners of the awards competition
will be announced at a Feb. 11 ceremony in New Orleans.
An
affiliate of washingtonpost.com, the online version of the Washington
Post, the site was launched in 1998. Last year new issues of the
magazine were posted monthly; since September, new issues appear
every other Wednesday.
The
news site is a product of the students commitment and determination.
No one receives pay. More than 40 students volunteer their time
in creating the magazine. They are led by executive editor Anna
Robertson, a fourth-year English and history major. "We have given
students with different backgrounds an opportunity to become leaders
in a new, exciting medium. We're also provided a new community for
ideas and discussion about issues relating to students," Robertson
said.
