Of Virginia Cancels Classes Friday In Recognition Of National Day
Of Mourning
September
14, 2001-- University
community to reflect together on the national tragedy.
- Classes will be cancelled
on Friday, Sept. 14 at the University of Virginia in recognition
of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.
- University offices other than
those that provide essential services will close from 11:30 a.m.
until 1:30 p.m. in compliance with President Bush's request. President
Casteen asks all supervisors to do everything possible to allow
employees to attend the noontime University observance or to participate
in other events of their choice.
- President Casteen will lead a
noon service of reflection and meditation in University Hall.
- The School of Architecture will
create a temporary commemorative space for the University community
to attach mementos, flowers and images. It will be located on
the east fence of the University tennis courts near University
Avenue. There will be a 5 p.m. dedication ceremony.
- There will be a silent, candlelight
vigil at 8 p.m. in the Amphitheater for the entire University
community.
