Ethan
Carr, assistant professor of landscape and regional planning at
the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, will give the Benjamin
Howland lecture at the University of Virginia School of Architecture
on Oct. 5.
Carr,
whose topic is "Cultural Landscapes and the Culture of Preservation,"
previously worked for the National Park Service, the New York City
Department of Parks, and several private design firms. He has taught
at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and U.Va.
Carr's
book, "Wilderness by Design: Landscape Architecture and the National
Park Service," received an American Society of Landscape Architects
honor award in 1998.
