Walter
B. Denny's teaching and research focuses on the art and architecture
of the Islamic world and the artistic traditions of the Ottoman
Turks, including Islamic carpets and textiles, and issues of economics
and patronage in Islamic art.
He
is the author of "The Ceramics of the Mosque of Rusten Pasha and
the Environment of Change" and numerous exhibition catalogues. His
recent projects include "Gardens of Paradise: Ottoman Turkish Tiles
of the 15th-17th Centuries," and a two-volume
study of oriental carpets in the collections of the Museum of Applied
Arts in Vienna.
Denny's
lecture concludes the McIntire Department of Art's 2000-2001 McIntire
Lecture Series.
