Second Dave Matthews Band Concert Cancelled
April 11, 2001 -- The
event organizers, with the consent of Dave
Matthews Band management, have decided to cancel the Sunday
April 22 performance at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The sold out Saturday, April 21 show at Scott Stadium will go on
as scheduled. The band members and their management apologize for
any inconvenience or disappointment this cancellation may cause
the bands fans or the community.
Said
Dave Matthews Band manager Coran Capshaw "We decided to launch
the 2001 tour in Charlottesville for two reasons. We wanted to provide
our hometown fans a truly special local show while, simultaneously
raising money for Bama Works Fund, the bands charitable fund
that focuses on the needs of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community.
Through this special benefit engagement, the band wishes to give
thanks to both their fans and to the community who have been extremely
supportive throughout the past 10 years."
"The
ticket demand for the first show greatly exceeded our expectations
and plans. While I initially thought the fans and the community
would be further benefited by the addition of a second show, I now
believe we should work within the limits of one show. The April
21 show will generate more than $850,000 for the Bama Works Fund.
To date, ticket sales for the second show do not assure sufficient
additional net proceeds for the charitable fund to justify the strain
on the community a second show may bring."
The
band appreciates the great outpouring of support they have received
regarding both the performance and the charitable efforts the show
will support.
In
addition to the April 21 show in Charlottesville, Dave Matthews
Band will headline two shows at the Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek
(April 28 and 29), RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. (June 9), and
the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater (July 27).
