Two's a Charm
Dave Matthews Band Announces Second Charlottesville Benefit Concert
March 27, 2001 --
On March 26, the Dave Matthews Band announced a second Charlottesville
benefit concert that if sold out like the first one
could add as much at $2.5 million to a community endowment that
is distributed to local charities.
The
second will be held at Scott Stadium at 6 p.m. April 22, the day
after the band's already-sold out April 21 benefit.
John
Redick, the head of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community Foundation
and administrator of the band's Bama Works Fund, said scheduling
the back-to-back concerts in Scott Stadium minimizes concert expenses
and allows for a greater gift to the community. Redick thanked both
the city and the University for their cooperation and support of
the upcoming events.
"In
the last 18 months the band's Bama Works Fund has distributed
more than half a million dollars to 25 community organizations in
such areas as youth, the disadvantaged, preservation, and the environment,"
Redick said. "Their giving addresses issues that are meaningful
to individual band members and important to the quality of life
in our community."
Like
the first concert, there will be a special ticket pre-sale lottery
on Friday, March 30, for U.Va. students and Charlottesville-area
residents at the Scott Stadium Box Office. Numbered and color-coded
wristbands will be distributed between 4 and 5 p.m. at Scott Stadium's
southeast gate. At 5 p.m., the color and number for the first ticket
to be sold will be drawn. Tickets will be sold from 6 to 10 p.m.
NOTE:
Everyone who arrives between 4 and 5 p.m. will have an equal chance
to the first ticket. Under this lottery system, there is no advantage
to coming early.
The ticket price is $46.50, cash or major credit card only. No checks
will be accepted. Each purchase is limited to 4 seats on the field
or 6 in the stands.
Ticketmaster
will also take telephone orders from local residents after 6 p.m.
Friday, March 30, at (804) 262-8100 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
Tickets
for the general public will go on sale Saturday, March 31, at 10
a.m. at Scott Stadium, all Ticketmaster outlets, and at Ticketmaster's
phone and web site.
