University Of Virginia Art Museum Invites The Public To Special Family Weekend Tour Oct. 27 And Reception Nov. 2

October 23, 2001-- In conjunction with Family Weekend, on Saturday, Oct. 27, the student docents of the University of Virginia Art Museum invite students, parents, and friends to enjoy complimentary tours of the museum beginning at 4 p.m., with a reception following at 5 p.m.

On Friday, Nov. 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend the monthly First Friday reception held at the museum. The reception offers hors d’oeuvres and beverages in the atmosphere of the museum’s most recent exhibitions, "Masquerades" and "Hero Sandwiches." Both exhibitions are in conjunction with the 2001 Virginia Film Festival. "Masquerades" features seldom-seen works from the museum’s permanent collection. "Hero Sandwiches" is a series of digitally manipulated photographs by multimedia artist Lynn Hershman. A third exhibit is "Singular Visions: Folk Art from Charlottesville Collections." The reception is free of charge to museum members. Admission is $3 for guests and non-members.

The University of Virginia Art Museum is located on Rugby Road, a short distance from the Rotunda. The museum is open to the public without charge, Tuesday through Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Limited parking is available behind the museum for visitors. Additional parking will be available for this event in the A6 lot, opposite the museum on Rugby Road.
