of Virginia Art Museum, Rugby Road, Charlottesville
A folk
art family workshop, "Through My Eyes: Regarding the Disregarded,"
will be held at the University of Virginia Art Museum on Sunday,
Oct. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. The program was organized in conjunction
with the "Singular Visions: Folk Art from Charlottesville Collections"
special exhibition, on view Oct. 5 through Dec. 2. The workshop
is free and is suitable for ages 4 through high school.
At
different activity stations, participants will apply a variety of
folk art practices, such as painting on paper bags, wood, and cardboard,
drawing with mud and chalk, making wood assemblages, and constructing
animal sculptures. In addition, student docents will conduct tours
of the folk art show and lead storytelling periods. Snacks and beverages
will be provided.
The
workshop is sponsored by the Young Friends of the University of
Virginia Art Museum under the direction of Jennifer van Winkle,
