From Many Countries Will Speak At Conference On "The University
In The Era Of Globalization"

A group
of leading scholars of higher education from around the world will
be at the University of Virginia on Tuesday, Nov. 13, for a conference
on the modern university in a global society.
The
conference, titled "The University in the Era of Globalization:
Cross-National Perspectives," will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
in Newcomb Hall South Meeting Room and Commonwealth Room and is
open to the University community and public. Participants will include
scholars from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Finland, Mexico and
Turkey as well as U.Va. and several other U.S. institutions.
Conference
sessions will address three broad topics:
- globalization,
intellectual property and knowledge production at universities
in different national contexts
- the
role of students in the emerging global university
- the
effect of globalization on university organization and governance
The
conference, organized by Brian Pusser, U.Va. assistant professor
of education, is sponsored by the Curry School of Education, Center
for the Study of Higher Education, and Vice-Provost for International
Affairs Office.
