Indian
Ambassador To The U.S. Will Speak At U.Va. Oct. 4
September
28, 2001-- Lalit Mansingh, the new Indian ambassador
to the United States, will speak at the University of Virginia's
Rotunda, on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 3p.m.
Mansingh
will discuss India's relations with the United States, focusing
on counter terrorism cooperation between the two nations.
Prior
to becoming ambassador in March, he served as India's foreign secretary
and high commissioner to the United Kingdom. From 1989 to 1992,
he was deputy chief of mission in Washington, D.C. Mansingh has
had a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service, which
he gained in 1963.
He
has been high commissioner to Nigeria from1993 to 1995 and ambassador
to the United Arab Emirates from 1980 to 1983. He also has served
in various diplomatic capacities in Geneva, Afghanistan and Belgium.
