16, 2001-- The University of Virginia College Foundation
board of trustees recently elected Alan Y. Roberts of Charlottesville
as its president.
announced on April 20 with an endowment of more than $77 million,
the College Foundation is a Virginia non-stock corporation. It was
organized over the past two years and evolved from the College Alumni
Council. Alumni of the U.Va. College and Graduate School of Arts
& Sciences created the foundation to attract high-level private
investment in the University's core undergraduate liberal-arts programs
and to work in partnership with the school's dean to advance the
goals of the College.
foundation's 30 trustees are from around the country and meet regularly
to promote the interests of the College.
1964 College graduate, Roberts was instrumental in establishing
the foundation and in receiving approval from the U.Va. Board of
Visitors to do so last June.
U.Va. volunteer for many years, Roberts is on the search committee
for a new dean of Arts & Sciences, a member of the U.Va. Raven
and Lawn societies, and the gift and reunions chair for the U.Va.
Class of 1964.
more than 25 years before retiring to Charlottesville, Roberts was
an antiques dealer, consultant and appraiser in the New York area,
with special interests in historic American manuscripts, Georgian
art and antiques.
