Committee For U.Va. Athletics Director Named
May
24, 2001-- University of Virginia President John
T. Casteen III today appointed a nine-member search committee to
recommend a replacement for M. Terry Holland, who will step down
as athletics director June 1.
Holland
will become a special assistant to Casteen, with fundraising and
other responsibilities related to planning for a new arena and special
events center.
Named
to head the committee is Earl C. Dudley Jr., a U.Va. law professor
who chairs the Universitys athletics advisory committee.
Other
committee members are:
Carolyn
M. Callahan, professor of education and faculty representative to
the NCAA
Amy
D. Cronin, chief of staff and special assistant to Casteen
W.
Heywood Fralin, alumnus and member of the Alumni Association Board
of Managers
Charles
L. Glazer, alumnus and member of the Board of Visitors
William
W. Harmon, vice president for student affairs
Jane
Miller, associate athletics director
Andrew
M. Virga, alumnus and president of Virginia Student Aid Foundation
Carl P. Zeithaml, dean of the McIntire School of Commerce
Casteen
said he will meet with the search committee within the next two
weeks to discuss the job description and his expectations for the
search process. He and Leonard W. Sandridge, executive vice president
and chief operating officer, will be available to the committee
in an ex officio capacity.
