Spanish Theater Group To Present Two One-Act Plays
February
15, 2001-- The University of Virginias Spanish
Theater Group, a veteran amateur ensemble known for its popular
productions of stage dramas in Spanish, will present its annual
Spring performances March 2-4 at Charlottesville High Schools
Black Box Theater.
This
years productions will be two thought-provoking one-act comedies
by South American writers: "Una Mariposa Blanca" (A White
Butterfly) by Argentine playwright Gabriela Roepke, and "El
Delantal Blanco" (The White Apron) by Sergio Vodanovic of Chile.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well
as 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for students and
$7 for the general public.
Ticket
reservations are recommended and may be made at U.Va.s Spanish
Department office at 112 Wilson Hall or by calling (804) 924-7155.
With
participating U.Va. faculty members and students from throughout
the Spanish-speaking world, the theater group performs plays from
different Spanish-speaking countries each year and usually chooses
plays with enough characters to give many members a role.
Spanish
Department faculty incorporate the plays into their curriculum for
upper-level classes. Spanish classes in high schools and colleges
throughout Virginia often attend the performances. Again this year
the group will go on tour to other colleges in the region after
the performances in Charlottesville.
U.Va.'s
Drama Department provides technical support to the production.
